The Names & Attributes of Allah

Posted in General, Reminders with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 13, 2008 by fearthedunya

Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Aziz Bin Baz -hafidhahullaah-said: [Al-Aqeedatus-Saheehah wa Ma Yudaadahaa (pp.9-13)]

From Eemaan (faith) in Allaah is to have eemaan in those of His Asmaa’ul-Husnaa (Beautiful names) and Sifaatul-Ulyaa (Lofty Attributes) that occur in His Great Book and that have been affirmed by His trustworthy Messenger (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) -without tahreef (distorting the wording or the meaning), tateel (divesting or denying the Attributes), takyeef (asking how) or tamtheel (resembling Allaah to any of His creation). Rather,it is obligatory to leave them as they came, without takyeef (asking how) or tamtheel (resembling Allaah to any of His creation). Along with this, it is also obligatory to have eemaan in the meaning that Allaah-the Mighty and Majestic-has been described with, in a way which befits Him: without resembling Him to His creation in any of His attributes.

Allaah-the Most High -says:

“There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing,the All-seeing” (42:11)

Allaah -the Mighty and Majestic -also says:

“And do not put forward any similitudes for Allaah. Indeed,Allaah knows and you do not know” (16:74

So this is the ‘aqeedah (belief) of Ahlu-Sunah wal-Jammaaah from the Companions of the Messenger (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) and those who followed them in goodness. This is what has been recordeed also by Imaam Abul-Hasan al-Asharee (d.324H)(rah) in his book:”Al-Maqaalat ‘an Ashaabul-Hadeeth wa Ahlus-Sunnah”. This has also been stated by many others from the people of knowledge and eemaan.

The Niqaab

In light of the Holy Qur’ân and Sahih Hadeeth and in the Opinions of the great scholarsniqab-group.jpg

From the Qur’ân (This tafseer is Agreed upon by Ibn Kathir, Al-Qurtubi and At-Tabari).

The Noble Qur’an

Surah Al-Ahzaab, Verse #59
‘O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (“Jalabib”) veils all over their bodies (screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way Tafseer Al-Qurtabi) that is most convenient that they should be known (as such) and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.”

Surah An-Nur, Verses #30 and #31
‘And Say to the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head cover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)

What you must know before you go…

travel-plane.jpgImportant advice for those who may undertake the role of the student of knowledge – those who want to leave behind their homeland, perhaps family, jobs, homes, college studies, or important positions in their communities

In the Name of Allaah, the Most-Merciful, may His Salaah and Salaam be upon His final Messenger Muhammad, to proceed:

Verily from the most rewarding ventures a person can undertake is to pursue knowledge of Allaah’s Deen. The ones who are favored with understanding of the Religion, not only does Allaah want good for them, as the Prophet of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) said:“If Allaah wants good for someone, He gives him understanding in the Religion.” [Bukhari (71)and Muslim (1037)]

On Taqleed (Blind Following)

Posted in Fatawa, Seeking Knowledge with tags , , , , on March 3, 2008 by fearthedunya

Shaykh Muqbil said on page 206 of Tuhfatul Mujeeb:

“So taqleed is not allowed, and those who allow the average person’s taqleed of a scholar than we say to them: What is the proof? Furthermore, who are more (in number)? The average people or the scholars? Rather the average people are more.

So if we don’t oblige them in sticking to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger (S) then the Christians will come and make them doubt about the religion or the Ba’thi or the Raafidhi or the Communist will do so. Furthermore a group went out to fight with their swords along al-Mukhtaar bin Abee ‘Ubayd ath-Thaqafi who claimed prophethood, and a group went out to fight with their swords alongside the Khawaarij about whom the Prophet (S) said:

“They are the dogs of the hellfire,” “They pass through the religion as the spear passes through prey.”

Who is to be called “Shaykh” in reality?

{{ Questioner: As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatu ALLAH wa barakatahu; is it correct to apply the term Shaikh to everyone from amongst the people. Especially since this term has become widely used, so we hope for some clarity in this.

Shaikh Ibn al-Uthaymeen: The term Shaikh in the Arabic language is not used except upon the kabeer (elder), either due to their being elder in age, or senior due to the level of knowledge they possess, or due to his wealth, and what is similar to this – and it is not applied to the sagheer (little one, i.e. little in age, knowledge, etc.) But as you have stated, it has become widespread now such that the ignorant person or the one who doesn’t know anything is called “Shaikh”, and this in my view is not befitting.
