1. Question: What is the verdict for Ghusl on Eid day ?

Answer :  There isn’t anything authentic narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Ghusl on Eid day. However there is no harm if a person does it for cleanliness. It has been reported that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made Ghusl on this day.

2. Question : Are there two Khutub on the Eid or only one ?

Answer : There is only one Khutub for the Eid for the men. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did two, it would have reached us through authentic narrators. There isn’t anything authentic which states he made two khutub on the Eid. It has been mentioned in Saheeh Muslim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed one khutbah.

QUESTION:
Can a father force his daughter to work in a mixed environment?.

ANSWER:
Praise be to Allaah.

Working in mixed environments is not free of the risk of some haraam things happening, such as looking, being alone with a person of the opposite sex, or feeling attracted. Hence the scholars have issued fatwas stating that it is haraam, based on what usually happens. It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (12/156):

Mixing of men and women in schools and elsewhere is a great evil and has serious implications for people’s religious and worldly interests. It is not permissible for a woman to study or work in a place where men and women mix, and it is not permissible for her guardian to allow her to do that.

Study & Work in Mixed Environments

These are hard realities indeed, but it does not help our situations to maintain blindness in respect of the Truth. May Allah aid us in implementing Islam in all aspects of our lives. For many of us living in the West, mixing is so common-place, so ingrained in our daily lives, it seems almost quaint to refer to what seems like such a non-issue.

Muslim women and their daughters in western countries where there are Muslim minorities face very difficult circumstances in that education and work are mixed environments. We are caught between two possibilities. Either we cut-off our provision, stay at home and beg and as a result sink to a very desperate material condition, or, alternatively, wear our Islaamic hijaab and study and work in those societies which do not differentiate between mixing and separation. What is your esteemed opinion concerning this matter?
