Bond of Brotherhood

The Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam described the believer in the following manner: “He makes friends and is befriended and there is no goodness in (one who) does not make friends or is not befriended.” (Related by Al-Tirmidhi).

Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) said regarding friendship: “Meet people in such a manner that if you die they weep over you and if you are alive they yearn for your company.” Subhanallah, gives a whole new meaning to “meeting new people” huh?

In another hadith, narrated by Nu’man ibn Bashir (radiALlahu anhu) the Prophet is reported to have said: “The Muslims (the Ummah) are like the limbs of a man, where if the eye hurts the whole body feels pain and if the head hurts, the whole body feels pain and suffering.” (related by Ahmed).

Allahu Akbar, when was the last time we asked someone “How are you?” and sincerely meant to know about their well-being? When was the last time we made a du’a for our absent brother/sister? When was the last time we asked Allah’s help for our brothers and sisters in Palestine? In Iraq? In the West? Anywhere??

Wallahu ‘Alam.

“And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey Allah and His messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise.”
~Surah Tawbah: Seventy-Two
